Creative Nonfiction
“Slide Rule” is a flash CNF piece (very short essay) which is included in a special a mini-issue from Saranac Review with the theme of ‘Making Art in Times of Crisis.’ In it I sever my genetic line—literally. Read it on SaranacReview.org, Issue 18.5 !

Poem Translation, side-by-side with the original Spanish by Abril Medina
“You couldn’t”
Abril Medina is a fantastic poet, born 1985 (like me!), from Guadalajara. I contacted her a couple years ago asking permission to translate some of her work from Spanish to English and submit for publication. My translation of "You couldn’t” appeared in Sycamore Review’s final issue, now out of print but can (maybe?) be digitally accessed by request here. Abril and I are hopeful that this 13-line poem in Sycamore Review’s final issue won’t be our final collaboration. Click here for an overview. Warning: don’t try the Submittable purchase! That option is no longer functional.
Awake in the World, Volume 3 anthology from Riverfeet Press, April 2023.
Short Fiction
“I’ll Just Wait Until It’s Quiet”
My short story (named Best in Fiction!) about a burnt out, depressed teacher who struggles to be present in his marriage, and he goes on a 100-mile backpacking trip with his beloved dog and irksome coworker. Lightning storms and tall cliffs get him thinking how it all might end. Click here for an overview of the anthology.
The anthology is available through any bookseller, including that super-convenient, highly problematic one. But I’d love for you to buy it from my local favorite in Oakland, Marcus Books, who will sell it to you online for $16 and ship it anywhere.
